About Paul Quayle

I was born in Liverpool, and attended the same schools as John Lennon. After graduating from University of Reading in 1985 with a degree in Human Geography I wanted to actually experience first-hand the world I had studied. I had always had a love for travelling and a passion for photography and I combined these with a sense of adventure when I packed my backpack and flew to Bombay without knowing anyone there and without a guidebook. After having my senses assaulted and enjoying it, I spent 18 months in Australia before arriving in Japan. Initially I intended to stay in Japan for a few months but I made Hiroshima my home and photo base for ten years.I travelled throughout Asia working as a photojournalist and wrote and published "Hiroshima Calling" a photo book with 191 photos documening the city and its people, with a special focus on Peace Park. I also published a set of postcards on Hiroshima Peace Park.

I returned to the UK in 1998 and I am now based in a village in Somerset from where I mainly concentrate on European travel-writing and photo features.

In 2004, a Holy Year, I walked and photographed the Camino Frances section of the Camino de Santiago pilgrimage route across northern Spain from the French border in the Pyrenees to the city of Santiago in Galicia. I travelled as light as possible with a small daypack which mainly contained my eighty rolls of film and an attached tripod. I had two camera's permanently slung over my shoulders during the five week trek. Happy days. In 2007 I published a set of twelve Camino de Santiago postcards of typical scenes along the Camino de Santiago. I have returned to Santiago several times over the years both to photograph in the city and to publish these Camino de Santiago postcards which are now in several shops in Santiago and are selling well.

I have a sister site www.paulquayle.co.uk which has more of my photography from around the world, plus more sections to encourage those living in Somerset, Dorset and Wiltshire, England to employ me as a photographer for assignments, weddings and animal photography.
